Anthropology is the study of people, what makes us the same and different, and how have those things changed over time and across space. The focus is on groups, and how we interact with one another and the world around us. It’s a super interesting discipline and perspective to be learning, especially right here and right now. I’m psyched to get started and can’t wait to see what experiences and understandings y’all are going to bring to the conversation!
I’ll see you online!
Please call me Jill, or Professor or Professor Siegel.

My Teaching Philosophy
I know everyone is capable of learning and the differences each person brings into a course enrich the learning of the group. It’s my job to do what I can to help you be as successful as possible at KBCC and move forward. I’ve designed our class to help accomplish this in a variety of ways.
I believe the goal of learning and teaching is to prepare you to take advantage of possibilities for new and different experiences in the future. Learning is a social and interactive process building on experiences and knowledge across time and space.
Through a four-field approach to Anthropology, we’ll learn tools, methods, and ways of thinking that will help you broaden your understanding of how the world works, and how you work within that world. You’ll learn about other people, places, times, and events, and you’ll also learn about yourself and the world around you in the process.

Expectations
We will all treat each other with respect at all times and will follow KCC’s guidelines for civility. I affirm all forms of gender expressions and identities. Plagiarism as a violation of academic integrity is the intentional use of another’s intellectual creation(s) without attribution. Success Kit: How to Get Started
Log on to our class Blackboard page and click WEEK 1. Then you’ll see what’s going on by reading the TASK LIST. Below that are the TO READ/WATCH/VIEW FOLDER and the TO DO FOLDER. All the readings/videos/podcasts are linked in the TO READ/WATCH/VIEW FOLDER, and all the assignments are linked in the TO DO FOLDER. So you open the folders and click the links. You’ve got this.
REMEMBER: Scroll all the way down and try clicking all the links. Then breathe.
You need to do at least 10 minutes of reading for this class every day. You can’t do the assignments without covering the material.
Log into Blackboard using your web browser instead of using the app. It’s easier to see instructions and understand what’s going on, especially in the beginning, if you access Blackboard through your internet browser.
